Last month I mentioned the mental health crisis among American youth. It’s attributable to heavy social media use among certain age groups. In light of this, Peggy Noonan asked whether some sort of strict age limit for using social media is in the public interest.
So here’s a question: What’s the public interest?
The answer lies in America being an experiment in self-governance. The Editorial Board of The Wall Street Journal recognizes this. In the aftermath of the shooting at the Uvalde, Texas, elementary school, it wrote that today’s young killers are typically from middle-class families with access to social media. “Their deficit is social and spiritual.”
True. But the board also noted this deficit is the consequence of “the decline of mediating institutions such as churches.” Again, true.
Then there is Friday’s Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade. The original 1973 ruling was an egregious encroachment on mediating institutions.
So three more questions: What is meant by meditating institutions? How are churches mediating institutions? How is this related to overturning Roe v. Wade?
